about

I was driving around with my friend Sean once, I was sitting in the back and I heard him say something that sounded like "Julia's into hardcore now". I wasn't involved in the conversation, so didn't know the context or if that was what he even said, but the phrase stuck in my head. I was into straight edge hardcore at the time, so I took a bunch of the imagery and cliches involved in the style of the music at the time and created a girl who used to like pop bands like mine and now liked hardcore, and this song was created. Crusty Records was doing a second comp. and Mr. Plow wanted us to include an unreleased track. So we went to the studio recording the Dead Milkmen track, and we decided to record Julia at the same time for the Crusty Comp. - Ken

lyrics

Used to see her at all the shows
Now she never ever goes
Julia's into hardcore now

She used to come and see us play
Almost each and every day
Now she thinks my band is gay

Julia's into hardcore now
And I don't care anyhow
I'm glad she's not part of our scene
Cause she can be so mean

Now she's down with a different crew
She's got something better to do
Than hang out with me or you

See her kickboxing in the pit
Watch her moving all that shit
You know that she just won't quit

You know she's trying to get an edge
But she can't give up cigarettes
Still she's got no regrets

She's into all these tough guy bands
She no longer understands
All my feelings and my plans

Julia's into hardcore now
And I don't care anyhow
I'm glad she's not part of our scene
Cause she can be so mean

about

The Chick Magnets Vancouver, British Columbia

The Chick Magnets played from 1997 until 2002 (dates approx). Ken Insipid played Bass, Lucas Spinoff on Guitar, and the famous Mr. Plow on drums. The music was pop punk, like Buddy Holly meets the Ramones. Fun stuff: the melodies will get stuck in your head and the beat will get your toe a tappin.
